2011 saw the start of a brand new CRAPPPS tradition – The Calverton St George’s Play.
The original script – compiled by Chris Throup from existing St George’s Play texts with additional characters and dialogue taken from the Calverton Plough Play – was cast at the CRAPPPS get together on Friday 11 March 2011.
A revised script was written by Simon Carter in January 2014 and was performed for the first time on the 2014 St George’s run.
The characters and performers on the 2017 run were as follows:
- Jester – James Byrne
- Mrs Gent – Paul Howard
- Mop – Paul Cullen
- King of England – Nick West / Jon Throup
- Princess – Jane Carter
- Squire – Jay Reilly
- St George – Jon Wood
- Slasher – Phil Wathall
- Beelzebub – Simon Carter
- Dragon – Eddie Wathall
- Doctor – Nick Bereznyckyj
The first ever show was performed at The Gleaners, Calverton, on Saturday 23 April 2011. Further performances (including an impromptu appearance on BBC TV) took place on Friday 29 April 2011, and then at the Gate To Southwell on Saturday 11 June 2011.
